10 Features of Brighid That Guests Love
Details — they really matter.
We've considered every possible detail in the design, build and decor of Brighid in order to make it an Isle of Lewis holiday home our guests will deeply appreciate. 'Good enough' or 'it does the job' aren't phrases in our vocabulary — from day #1 we've carefully selected features, styles and details that really add to visitors' Hebridean break; whether they're Scottish folks on a 'staycation' or international travellers exploring Scotland's Outer Hebrides.
A Lewis holiday is one to really savour — there is so much ancient history to discover, endless scenery to photograph, an abundance of food & drink and, crucially, a peaceful pace of life that will feel like a much-needed escape from the day-to-day routine. Brighid is inspired by the heritage of this place, and designed to complement the natural features of the Isle of Lewis & Harris, making for a relaxing and authentic Scottish island experience.
Here's a quick list of 10 Brighid features and facilities that guest truly love.
The 'Modern Blackhouse'

Blackhouse dwellings — or taigh-dubh — were built on the Isle of Lewis in the 19th century to withstand the elements of Outer Hebridean life and often shared a roof with the residents’ farm animals.
Built into their landscapes and warmed by a central fireplace, there are still a few blackhouses that can be visited on modern day Lewis and Harris and this heritage formed part of the inspiration for Brighid — a modern ‘blackhouse’ that combines rugged views and home comforts.
The house's distinctive aspect and exterior is modern but respectful of its surroundings, and allows the incredible coastline of Melbost Borve to take centre-stage.
A Bath With a View

There are few more blissful feelings than settling into a warm and luxurious bath, and when combined with the Isle of Lewis' stunning Atlantic ocean views, this is taken to the next level of comfort and relaxation.
Our tub gets rave reviews from guests for its size, shape and comfort, and the floor to ceiling window facing out to sea really completes the package.
When planning your stay, be sure to pencil in a bathtime (or several!) to really make the most of your stay at Brighid.
Cosy Fire & The Ocean

Gazing at the roaring fire or looking out at the beautiful coastline? We say: why not both?
The living space at Brighid comes complete with a showpiece woodburning stove and reclining chair, perfectly positioned for cosy comfort and panoramic ocean scenery.
Curl up here with a cuppa and a good book, or a dram of something special, and adopt a suitably slow and easygoing pace of life. You won't regret it.
Relaxed, Modern Kitchen-Dining

Whether it's a quiet morning coffee, preparing some nibbles or cooking up a freshly prepared meal for you and your fellow guests, our kitchen-dining area is fully equipped and ready to go.
The kitchen at Brighid features a four-ring induction hob, electric oven & grill, integrated fridge (with freezer drawer), a dishwasher and all the usual countertop appliances and kitchen accessories.
We've had guests prepare gourmet feasts with some hand-picked local ingredients, and all agreed there was no better place to cook and dine than the Isle of Lewis coast.
A Perfect Way to Wake Up

When the day is done, a great night's sleep awaits you in the bedroom — with a comfortable king-sized mattress to stretch out on and plenty of little comforts and storage space to make you feel right at home.
The magic touch, however, is the bedroom's electric window-blinds — opening up in the morning to bathe the room in light and offer up beautiful ocean views from the comfort of bed.
It's a wake-up call that's good for the soul and very easy to get used to!
Tweed Touches

We're very proud of Lewis and Harris and the amazing heritage, culture, food & drink and welcome people discover when they visit.
An iconic brand from this part of Scotland — Harris Tweed — is renowned the world over, and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to include it in a few subtle places throughout Brighid.
Various chairs and lampshades throughout the house are upholstered with this beautiful fabric, and guests love the attention to detail.
Unforgettable Sunsets

The outdoor deck at Brighid is something that delights our guests, especially at sunset.
A multi-purpose space for dining, sunbathing, yoga, enjoying a cuppa or, most spectacularly, watching the sun go down over the Isle of Lewis coastline — the deck is yours to use and enjoy.
We get many reviews that mention our stunning sunsets here on Lewis & Harris, but we never tire of hearing guests' delight and amazement at the colours of the sky.
Quality Sofa Time

The lounge / living room space is a great place to retreat to once the sun has set and the day is winding down. With a plush sofa, pouffe, small selection of books and 55" HD TV, you've got plenty to keep you entertained while enjoying a bit of R&R.
It also comes equipped with a Sonos speaker for soundtracking your stay at Brighid — we wholeheartedly recommend making a playlist before you come!
Morning Coffee, Made Easy

A quick and easy cup of coffee is a great way to start the day — and the Nespresso machine in the kitchen delivers just that.
Every morning coffee is elevated to new heights when you enjoy it on the striking Lewis coast.
We supply a selection of coffee pods with the machine, but feel free to bring your own if you have particular tastes — it's important to get these things just right.
The 'Locals'

To overlook our woolly neighbours would be a huge oversight on our part.
In the coastal fields next to Brighid, hardy island sheep graze peacefully and occasionally stop to take an interest in what you're up to. Don't be alarmed — they're well used to visitors and will occasionally say hello!
Guests frequently mention 'the locals' in their feedback, and they're a truly authentic part of your stay at Brighid.
